Dynamic Duo set to play for Calgary Colts

By Stefanie Johnston

It has always been said that twins have a special connection, a bond no one but other twins understand. In sports this undeniable relationship can be the difference between a good team and a great team.

Coach McNab, the offensive coordinator for the Calgary Colts, hopes adding slot back receiver Oren Doneff to the team will bring playoff success. Oren's twin brother Cassidy, a wide receiver, already plays for the Calgary Colts.

"I hope he brings a winning attitude, said McNab. "I mean, I think the Colts do not know how to win right now and Oren's been part of that; winning a national championship with the (Edmonton) Huskies."

Both brothers seem excited to be in familiar ground again.

"The last few years have kind of being out of the ordinary with him not around," explains Cassidy. "We've been playing together since we were 10 years old, playing Peewee. It's nice to have him back, have him around."

When playing together, the two brothers have never missed a playoff experience.
This should be good news for the Colts, who missed out in post season action last year.
Oren hopes to bring the intensity, and leadership that the Colts have been struggling to find.

"I'm hoping to bring a little winning experience," he said chuckling. "And hopefully help them on the road back to success."

As for playing with his twin, he feels it's going to be the fit he missed in Edmonton.

"We know what each of us is doing at the same time, how to react off each other. We're going to work a pretty good tandem this year."

The two 20- year-old twins are set to play on the same line, reading off each other and not against one another.

"Obviously when we play together it's a whole other level," Cassidy explains.

"I think coach McNab has seen what we can do already; we've been pretty productive with him as a duo in the past."

McNab coached the twins in Cochrane where they won two provincial championships. He has seen them grow up and become the players they are.

"They're both really unselfish players, they want to do well and they want to win. Oren will do anything to win, he'll block, he'll catch, he'll do whatever is asked of him, and I appreciate that... I've always enjoyed coaching Oren and he wants to win, he's just got that grit, that fire, that passion. And Cassidy has got a huge burning desire to win, probably the biggest I have ever seen. He's really focused."

Will this pairing be twin magic?

"I sure hope so," Cassidy said laughing.
