Quarterback Nate Cote set a CJFL record for touchdown passes in a season with his 33rd as his Victoria Rebels defeated the Okanagan Sun 20-19 Sunday afternoon at the Apple Bowl.

The St Leonard Cougars (6-0) clinched first place in the Ontario Football Conference for the fourth consecutive season and will host the Ontario Football Conference final on Saturday October 13th.

On Sunday, September 23rd, the Rifles will pay tribute to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regiment. The Rifles are honoured and humbled by the Regiment's rich history in Winnipeg, the sacrifices made by its men and women and its connectedness to Junior Football. We are proud to wear the name and honour the Regiment.

Outstanding Offensive Player of the Week

Nate Cote – Quarterback – Victoria Rebels

It was another record breaking day for Rebels QB Nate Cote. In a game that went right down to the wire, Cote engineered the game winning drive to the goal line that resulted in his 33rd touchdown pass and a new CJFL record for TD’s in a season. Cote finished with 13 completions on 29 attempts, 226 yards and 2 TD’s in the victory over the Sun.

Outstanding Defensive Player of the Week

Jordan Matechuk – Linebacker – Victoria Rebels

The game was a battle from start to finish and the Rebels defense held strong against the Sun. Linebacker Jordan Matechuk was a huge presence on the field and the defensive standout by far. Matechuk posted 7 solo tackles, 3 assists, a blocked kick and a fumble recovery for a total of 23 defensive points in the Rebels victory.

Outstanding Special Team Player of the Week

Lenn Gittens – Returner – St Leonard Cougars

Lenn collects his third weekly award but his first special team award. Also considered for the offensive award this week the second year veteran returned 3 kick offs for 179 as the Cougars scored a last minute 24-21 victory over the visiting Windsor AKO Fratmen. His longest return went 113 yards for a touchdown. On offense he rushed for another 112 yards on 15 carries and scored the winning TD with 26 seconds remaining.
