Canadian Junior Football League action in week six produced new BCFC records and rare starts by teams. The Saskatoon Hilltops have tied their first two games. The Windsor AKO Fratmen start with a 0-2 record for the first time since 1984. Nate Cote of the Victoria Rebels set a BCFC passing record while Ben Wilson of the South Surrey Rams tied a BCFC receiving record.

The Burlington Braves who are celebrating ’50 years of football’ during 2007 held the anniversary banquet last Thursday with 250 friends and alumni attending.

For high school fans in Kelowna the Big Kahuna Bowl will take place Thursday August 30th at the Apple Bowl.

The CJFL Record Books have been updated and now include records and statistics up to and including the 2006 Canadian Bowl.

CJFL Players of the Week

Outstanding Offensive Player of the Week

Nate Cote – Quarterback – Victoria Rebels

This week was the toughest decision in years on who was more deserving of the offensive award, the Quarterback or the Receiver. Rebels QB, Nate Cote, had a record breaking day completing 20 of 31 passes for 443 yards and setting a new BCFC record with 8 TD passes in a single game, beating the old record of 7 from back in 1995.

Outstanding Defensive Player of the Week

Mitch Friesen – Defensive Back – Saskatoon Hilltops

Holding off one of the most powerful offenses in the conference is no easy task, but with the help of Mitch Friesen, the Saskatoon Hilltops did

enough take a point out of Edmonton. Friesen was the top defender in a very defensive battle that accumulated him 7 solo tackles and an interception for a total of 18 defensive points.

Outstanding Special Team Player of the Week

Tony Testa – Kicker & Returner – St Leonard Cougars

Tony was the leading scorer with 17 points as the St Leonard Cougars defeated the Windsor AKO Fratmen 38-1 at their home stadium. This is

Tony’s second weekly award in 2007, last week he captured the offensive award. He returned 3 punts for a total of 112 yards. His longest was a 100

yarder for a TD. He returned 2 kick offs another 39 yards, the longest was 22 yards. On the other side the third year veteran was good from 29 yards

for a field goal while being good on 4 of his 5 convert attempts. For good measure at slot back he caught three passes for 24 yards.
