Effective September 11, 2017, Calgary Colts Head Coach, Matthew “Snoop” Blokker, tendered his resignation to the team. Coach Snoop cited “personal reasons” for his departure and the Colts Board of Directors have accepted his resignation.
An event such as this causes several levels of anxiety for the football team; the players, remaining Coaches, parents, team sponsors, the PFC, and the CJFL in which the Colts play. On behalf of the Colts Board of Directors, I want to assure all interested parties that the Colts remain committed to a successful 2017 season and have asked Assistant Head Coach, Tim Kearse, to assume the Head Coaching duties on an interim basis for the balance of the season. Coach Kearse is a former player in the NFL and the CFL with coaching experience at the professional level and the Board has full confidence in his ability to lead this team. The remaining position Coaches are also devoted to the Calgary Colts and we will support them in every way possible.
To the players, parents and team sponsors, please rest assured that the Colts are financially sustainable and have a renewed relationship with the Calgary Stampeders which will support the team in many ways going forward. In the 53 year history of the Calgary Colts, we have faced many obstacles but the underlying point of the organization was always to provide young men the opportunity to play football at a high level. So on behalf of Keith Evans (General Manager for 53 years) and the rest of the Board of Directors, we reaffirm our commitment to the players, Coaches and the football operations staff.
