On April 18, 2018, the Calgary Colts Football Club hosted an evening gala and fundraising event. The event, which was 100% volunteer organized, saw increased attendance, up 55% over last year! There was participation from all levels of football with contribution and attendance from the Bantams, Calgary Colts, University of Calgary Dinos and the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders.
During the evening gala, there was a silent auction component with a wide range of donated items from Calgary Colts Football Club team apparel, wine baskets, autographed Calgary Stampeders jerseys, Calgary Flames memorabilia and even a Green Bay Packers helmet signed by Brett Favre. The sponsors did an amazing job of filling the silent auction tables with incredible items; a huge thank you to each of our sponsors for their donations!
A live auction was also hosted by the Colts’ favorite game time announcer, Mr. Mahoney.
Among the attendees for the dinner were Calgary Colts alumni, spanning more than 40 years of participation with the club.
In honour of the Humbolt Broncos, there was also a 50-50 draw which raised $435 to be donated to the community for the hockey player’s families. The winner of the 50-50 draw also decided to donate back his winnings to the Calgary Colts Football club.
A delicious prime rib dinner was served by the Italian Cultural Club where the gala was hosted. And for dessert, attendees were treated to a question and answer panel with Calgary Stampeder’s Bo Levi Mitchell and Alex Singleton where hilarity ensued. Both men discussed the excellent opportunities that football creates in our communities and the importance of promoting all levels of participation in the sport.
Overall, the fundraiser was considered a great success, with profitability of the event up 65% year over year from last season. The Colts year over year goal is 20% growth of profitability.
